Our shamanic dance and movement workshops are rooted in the five rhythms work of Gabrielle Roth and use the body as a gateway for creative exploration of the deeper self. The work offers a simple yet profound way of touching and reconnecting with the essential parts of ourselves. Bringing us back to unity and remembrance of the sacred self, which holds the key to our true vitality. Through dance, movement, release, improvisation, theatre games and a wide variety of shamanic techniques and practices; we learn to embrace our individuality and move to the rhythm of our own hearts, leading us onwards to the realms of primal ecstasy, that universal resource for the re-enchantment of our daily lives.
The Five Rhythms work is based on a natural cycle of rhythms that build into a wave of movement. Through the embodiment of the wave, the dancer is able to ride the differing tides of their inner dance into new possibilities and opportunities for change. These rhythms represent the complete spectrum of human expression and allow us a thorough exploration of the many moods of being; enabling us to connect with and release behaviour patterns rooted in the energy system of the body. The wave becomes the starting point for many journeys into the deeper self, from where we can gain access to the creative and vital source of our being. Once we gain contact with this essential part of our self, we can open ourselves to the rich texture of creative experience, utilising writing, theatre, drawing and sculpture to deepen and express our understanding of self and enrich the sacred art of living.
Shamanic dance is both absolutely modern and at the same time ancient, reaching back to its roots in the primal ecstasy of dance creating a timeless fusion of work that offers dynamic shamanic transformation in a safe grounded environment. This is not a dance of choreographed steps. But instead an invitation to discover the dancer inside yourself and to be danced from the inside out, finding your own steps and being moved by the living spirit of your breath.
Duncan has been dancing the Five Rhythms since 1987 and teaching in both Britain and Europe since 1989 after becoming an accredited teacher. His work draws from a variety of shamanic dance and movement techniques and other shamanic practices, which are woven into a rich tapestry of inspirational work. We offers a wide range of work including taster sessions, workshops, ongoing courses and one to one tuition, to conferences, organizations, established groups and individuals.
